  6. things may become worse before they get better


  7. family roles may be challenged


  8. parents and adolescents may experience a sense of disempowerment


  9. different therapists have different ideas about what families should do


  10. anticipated outcomes may not always be the actual outcome


  11. families may separate


  12. may be less useful where there is family violence


  13. not recommended when one member of family is profoundly emotionally / psychiatrically ill
