Who :


Children and adolescents who have experienced physical and / or sexual abuse, exposure to violence, emotional deprivation, have fears, have difficult or destructive relationships with others, self harmful behaviours, etc. may benefit from this program. Families and individuals that demonstrate insight and can put strategies learned in office sessions into action elsewhere may benefit from this program. Parents who require help in meeting their child's or adolescent's needs, or in establishing family cohesiveness are often serviced through this program.



What :


Through office sessions and a variety of services such as play, brief, family or individual therapy, and parent groups, individual and family treatment plans can be developed to meet a variety of needs. Increasing skills in the areas of structuring routines and discipline, problem solving and communication. It also means dealing with anger, trauma, improving relationships, altering perceptions, and increasing self-care skills. The Brief Therapy Clinic may suit your needs, as single sessions may be scheduled on a 'first come first served' basis.

  10. TAPP-C (The Arson Prevention Program - Children) Assessments and referral to the Fire Department Program

Risks


  1. assessment experience may be stressful to adolescent


  2. results may be difficult for family to hear or accept e.g. parents might be upset to learn that their child has Conduct Disorder or has Borderline Intelligence


  3. results may be inaccurate e.g. diagnosis


  4. more information may be revealed by testing than family is prepared to reveal
