CHIMO

CELEBRATING THE HOPES AND DREAMS OF CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES

The Adventure Quest Program is a collaboration of Chimo Youth & Family Services and the Boys & Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes and the local area school boards.

What is it?

Adventure Quest is a program for youth who are struggling at school (Grades 6 - 8) and are in need of extra support and guidance to promote success.  The program helps students become more self-confident, communicate better both at home and at school, work on group skills, peer relations, making decisions and solving conflicts.  As well, the program offers in-home support to assist families with their concerns such as communication, problem solving and setting limits, etc.  Family involvement is a must!  The AQ program attempts to provide transportation for youths participating in the program, and works collaboratively with the school to provide a smooth return when the youth graduates from AQ.  Group sizes are small and usually consist of 6 - 8 co-ed group members.

What do you do at AQ?

At AQ youth's participate in fun, exciting, challenging activities in a physically & emotionally safe environment.  Youth are given the opportunity to climb the rock wall & low ropes elements, participate in group tasks & challenges, group discussions and other activities that are adventure based.  All adventure/activities are "Challenge by choice", so youth's are not expected to participate in anything they are not feeling comfortable with, but are expected to participate in some fashion.

How?

To participate in the AQ program, referrals are first made through the school board, the school board will then notify families about the AQ program and direct them to call Central Intake, families are then to call Central Intake to begin the intake process.
